Trient is a village in Valais near the French border with Chamonix. It lies in the Val de Trient at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif. The Trient glacier was still supplying ice for restaurants, breweries and dairies in the 19th century. On the outskirts of the village, on the road to Chamonix, there is a loop leading to the mysterious Tête-Noire gorges. They contain idyllic waterfalls and a grotto and can only be reached via steep steps. Canyoning is popular in the gorge. You can reach Trient from Martiny by post bus in the direction of Châtelard.
