The Rütli is a historic meadow by Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland. It is considered the cradle of the Swiss Confederation. On August 1, 1291, representatives of the three founding cantons Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden formed an alliance to defend their freedom. This became known as the Rütli Oath and is regarded as the founding myth of Switzerland. The Rütli is located in the municipality of Seelisberg and is a popular destination for excursions. From here, you have a picturesque view of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains.
