When does the ski season start in Switzerland?
The start of the season for ski resorts in Switzerland depends on the snow conditions and altitude. Therefore, there is not a single start and end of the season. Typically, the ski resorts open their slopes at the beginning of December and maintain operations until the end of April.

In higher-altitude areas like Saas Fee, it's quite possible that you can ski on the glacier as early as November and even at Easter. The same goes for Zermatt, where you can enjoy skiing on the slopes even in summer.

Since 2014, the two ski areas Arosa and Lenzerheide have been connected by a gondola. This newly formed ski area is particularly versatile and has become one of the largest ski areas in Graubünden. It’s known for its varied and long, sun-kissed slopes.
The area stretches across two valleys with blue, red, and black descents, offering a total of over 225 km of slopes for all skill levels. In Tschuggen in the Arosa sub-area, you’ll find a large number of easy slopes, which provide a fantastic chance for beginners to try out skiing.
The Lenzerheide area has a wide selection of family-friendly zones. However, it also boasts a variety of challenging slopes for more advanced skiers. Lenzerheide is very snow-safe and equipped with modern snow-making and lift facilities.
Throughout the entire Lenzerheide Arosa ski area, you can look forward to many huts and mountain restaurants offering culinary delights. Many of them naturally provide a spectacular panoramic view of the Bündner Alps.
The Davos Klosters ski area offers over 300 kilometers of slopes and includes six different zones: Jakobshorn, Parsenn, Madrisa, Rinerhorn, Schatzalp, and Pischa.
Each zone has its unique features and is suited to different types of skiers—beginners, families, advanced skiers, or freeriders. However, you can definitely count on impressive mountain landscapes and stunning panoramic views in all zones.
If you’re a beginner or visiting with family, check out Rinerhorn and Madrisa. You’ll find wide and easy runs, perfect for relaxed descents or beginners. Schatzalp is also great for laid-back skiing.
The Parsenn area is excellent for classic alpine skiing. This zone is accessible from both Davos and Klosters.
For freestyle enthusiasts, Jakobshorn boasts fantastic snow parks, while freeriders can enjoy numerous off-piste routes in the Pischa zone.
The train stations in Klosters and Davos are well-connected by the Rhaetian Railway. The journey between Davos Platz and Klosters Platz takes about half an hour. Plus, in Davos, the highest town in Europe, you can ride the public bus for free between the Davos ski areas.

The Flims Laax Falera ski area stretches between the Vorab Glacier and the Cassonsgrat. It offers 235 kilometers of slopes with versatile descents for everyone. Beginners get their money's worth especially on the blue slopes at Laera around Alp Dado and on the slopes close to the valley in Flims
If you are a beginner and don't want to stay close to the valley, you can ski on numerous blue slopes on the Vorab Glacier at 2590 m.a.s.l.. Families can look forward to the easy slopes as well as three snow wonderlands that are especially fun for the little ones.
Experienced skiers will get their money's worth on the Vorab Glacier and on the sun-flooded red and black slopes in Nagens and Mutta Rodunda. More than 40 km of off-piste areas await freeriders, and freestylers will love Laax for its four snow parks. These parks are equipped with one super and one mini pipe.

Valais has a total of 2619 km of slopes and 570 ski lifts. Here, you’ll find the highest ski resorts in Switzerland, guaranteed snow reliability, and spectacular peaks over 4000 meters. It includes famous towns like Zermatt and Saas-Fee and is home to the Matterhorn, arguably Switzerland's most iconic landmark. In the Valais ski areas, both beginners and advanced skiers, professionals, snowboarders, freestylers, and freeriders will find something for everyone.
The Zermatt ski area boasts over 360 km of slopes, making it one of the three largest ski resorts in Switzerland. Part of the area is located at 3883 m above sea level, making Zermatt the highest ski resort in the Alps. Thanks to this elevation, there’s a summer ski area with 21 km of slopes.
The area is divided into four sections: Rothorn, Gornergrat, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and Cervinia on the Italian side. In these areas, there are perfect slopes for all skill levels. A total of 220 km of red slopes for advanced skiers, 63 km of black slopes for experts, and 75 km of blue slopes for beginners.
For beginners, there are great practice areas, beginner parks, or blue slopes in Täsch, Randa, or on Sunnegga. The range of ski schools in Zermatt is very comprehensive. Freeskiers and snowboarders particularly enjoy the Snowpark Zermatt. For freeriders, there’s a wide selection of guided ski tours off-piste.

The ski resort Saas-Fee offers a total of 150 kilometers of slopes. This includes 37 km of blue runs, 90 km of red runs, 23 km of black runs, and 5 km of freeride routes. Saas-Fee is a car-free village surrounded by towering mountains and glaciers. The resort is nestled between 18 impressive peaks over 4000 meters high. Thanks to the altitude, the area is known for its reliable snow conditions.
Beginners can learn to ski on the slopes at the valley station or try their skills on the blue runs at the Alpin Express. For advanced skiers, there's a diverse and partly adventurous offering on slopes up to 3600 m. The descent from Allalin to Saas-Fee is a special highlight, descending nearly 1800 vertical meters.
Freeriders and freestylers can also find excitement in Saas-Fee. There are five different off-piste routes and two thrilling fun parks. It's important to stay on these designated routes, as you often find yourself on the glacier, and straying off the path comes with the risk of ending up in a crevasse.
Not far from Saas-Fee, you can find the ski resorts Saas-Almagell and Hohsaas in Saas-Grund. These are easily accessible by postbus from Saas-Fee, and with a ski pass valid for all resorts, you can ride the postbus for free.

The ski area boasts a total of 400 km of slopes and connects the villages of Bruson, Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, and Thyon. It's suitable for skiers of all levels. This includes 119 km of blue runs, 196 km of red runs, 29.5 km of black runs, and 55.5 km of freeride routes.
La Tzoumaz is particularly great for beginners and intermediates, offering a wide variety of blue and red slopes.
Advanced skiers will find a large selection of red runs in Veysonnaz and Verbier. Snowboarders will also find enjoyment at 2950 m above sea level. Experienced riders can tackle the famous descent to La Chaux. For pros, there's the challenging slope to Mont-Gelé at 3330 m above sea level.
Nendaz provides options for beginners and intermediates in the lower area, but the highlight is definitely the black run to Prarion.

The ski areas in the Bernese Oberland encompass over 774 kilometers of slopes, catering to families, freestylers, freeriders, and snowboarders. The ski resorts reach heights of up to 3,016 meters, promising great snow conditions.
The Grindelwald ski area covers a total of 103 kilometers of slopes and offers a variety of runs for beginners, intermediate skiers, professionals, and snowboarders. It is one of the three largest ski resorts in the Bernese Oberland.
At the foot of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, there are many wide blue slopes that are especially ideal for beginners. A particularly suitable and beautiful run for beginners is the long slope from the Fallboden chairlift's mountain station to Brandegg.
Since most of the runs in this ski resort are red-marked, intermediate skiers and snowboarders will particularly enjoy themselves. A highlight of the area is the red Punchball run, which starts on the 2,320 m high Eigergletscher.
For advanced skiers, there are the very challenging runs "Oh-God" and "Black-Rock," which also start on the Eigergletscher.

The Mürren ski area comprises a total of 54 kilometers of piste on 24 runs. With the 2970 m high Schilthorn, it is the highest skiing area in the Bernese Oberland and is therefore considered to have guaranteed snow. Beginners practice best on the over 20 km of blue marked slopes. For advanced skiers there are over 24 km of slopes and professionals can let off steam on 10 km of slopes
A special highlight in this ski resort is the Skyline Snowpark. Here freestylers and snowboarders get their money's worth. In addition to the ski slope, there are two lines for beginners and advanced skiers. For freeriders, the outback around the Piz Gloria is a highlight.

The Adelboden Lenk ski area offers over 86 kilometers of pistes. It spreads across the mountains Silleren, Chuenisbärgli, Hahnenmoos, Metsch, Tschentenalp, and Bühlberg. The area is situated between 1,068 and 2,362 meters above sea level, ensuring good snow reliability.
Adelboden Lenk has the right runs for all skill levels. Around Metschstand and Hahnenmoos, there are plenty of blue-marked pistes that are particularly suitable for beginners.
Intermediate skiers will enjoy the more than 33.5 kilometers of varied red-marked runs around Sillerenbühl and Aebi. For the pros, the Boden-Chuenisbärgli lift leads the way. At this mountain station, you'll find the famous World Cup piste. So, if there's a place where you can truly feel like a ski racer, it's here.
A highlight for freestylers is the Gran Masta Park at Hahnenmoos. In this park, beginners can test themselves with simple rails and jumps. Advanced skiers and pros can also showcase their skills here.

The Meiringen-Hasliberg ski area has 60 kilometers of slopes spread across 23 pistes. This ski resort is particularly well-suited for families and beginners, but advanced skiers can also find various pistes that meet their needs. For professionals, there’s a small yet thrilling selection of black-marked pistes.
For kids, there’s the ski bunny land Bidmi, where skiing is taught in a fun way. Beginners should stick to the blue-marked pistes in the lower area of the ski resort. Especially between Bidmi and Reuti, there’s a nice selection of blue-marked runs. A special descent for newcomers is the Twing valley run, which leads to Hasliberg Reuti.
Intermediate and professional skiers will find plenty to love on the runs at Hochsträss, Mägisalp, and in the Hääggen-Mägisalp ski cross park.

The Gstaad ski area spans ten peaks and boasts 200 kilometers of slopes. The area is located at an altitude between 1,000 and 3,000 meters above sea level and is the only glacier region in the Bernese Oberland. As a result, snow reliability is often guaranteed from October onwards. With 75 pistes, there are varied descents available for all skill levels.
Families will find the Gstaader Hausberg Wispile particularly suitable. This area features many easy descents, snowshoe hiking trails, and toboggan runs.
A highlight for beginners and casual riders is the over 10 km long descent from the peak of La Videmanette down to Rougemont. Those needing a break can stop at several huts to enjoy the panoramic views.
For intermediates and pros, the glacier offers a special highlight. Various adventurous and exciting pistes, along with a fun park, provide lots of fun and variety.

Central Switzerland is home to a total of 575 kilometers of slopes, offering all levels of ability. For families, there is a large selection of ideal areas with ski schools and children's worlds. Advanced and professional skiers also have a wide choice, including adventurous runs on the glacier in Engelberg. Off the slopes there are many possibilities for freeriders.
The ski area offers 120 kilometers of pistes spread over 44 runs. Here, beginners as well as advanced and professional skiers will find many exciting runs. Beginners can practice their first turns on 25 km of slopes, advanced skiers will get their money's worth on 55 km of red slopes and for the pros there are over 40 km of black slopes
A special slope for the pros is the "Bernhard-Russi-Run" slope, known as the most difficult downhill run. It starts at the Gemsstock lookout peak and runs to the Gutschen middle station. On a length of 4.3 km 950 meters of altitude are overcome
For the little ones there are three different children's parks that promise lots of fun and skiing adventures. Freestylers can look forward to two fun parks, which are equipped with many exciting elements as well as a 100 m half pipe
Another highlight in the ski resort is the Snow Night on the Dleni-Milez slope. Here the slopes are illuminated and invite you to night skiing and sledding

The Titlis Engelberg Ski Area offers 82 kilometers of slopes and spans Brunni, Titlis, and Jochstock. A special highlight is the Titlis Glacier, which reaches an altitude of 3,238 meters.
With 29 km of blue, 38 km of red, and 15 km of black runs, there’s something for every skill level. The slopes in Brunni and the valley are ideal for beginners and those looking for a relaxed ride.
For more advanced skiers, the area offers a wide range of runs. A standout feature of the ski area is the Rotair cable car to the glacier summit at Titlis, which rotates and provides a stunning panoramic view. There are many exciting red runs at the glacier.
Freestylers can look forward to a fun park at Jochstock, and for freeriders, the runs from Laub to the village and from Galtiberg to Engelberg are particularly special.

The Sörenberg ski area has 53 kilometers of slopes, making it the largest winter sports area in the canton of Lucerne. In the middle of the area is the Brienzer Rothorn, which at 2350 m.a.s.l. is the highest mountain in the canton
In total, Sörenberg offers 30 km of blue marked slopes, 15 red marked slopes and 8 km of black marked slopes. All skill levels will therefore find what they are looking for, but there is the largest selection of slopes for beginners.
The area is also particularly popular with families. In addition to the large selection of easy slopes, there is a snow sports school, two adventurous sledding trails and many guided snowshoe tours

The ski areas in Eastern Switzerland boast 2,399 diverse kilometers of slopes. Families can look forward to children's paradises, beginner slopes, and ski schools. But advanced skiers, pros, freestylers, and freeriders also have a large selection of exciting and challenging runs.
The Flumserberg ski area offers 65 kilometers of slopes, making it the largest winter sports area between Zurich and Chur.
With 40 km of red-marked slopes, this area is very suitable for advanced skiers. Especially at Prodkamm and Maschgenkamm, there's a very varied terrain that sporty riders will love.
On 14 km of blue-marked slopes, beginners can practice their turns while relaxed skiers can enjoy a leisurely descent. The best place for beginners to practice is on the shorter runs at Tennenboden. Here, the little ones can also look forward to an exciting children’s land.
If you’re looking for a bit more action, you should definitely check out the Family Snowpark, which guarantees fun with many elements. For advanced freestylers, there’s the Snowpark “The Real Park,” featuring over 700 m of obstacles.

The Pizol ski resort features 50 kilometers of slopes and is located in the well-known holiday region of Heidiland. There are a total of 15 km of blue, 21 km of red, and 6 km of black marked pistes.
Thanks to a versatile fun park, beginners, advanced skiers, families, and freestylers of all skill levels can enjoy themselves here. For sporty skiers, there's also a speed measurement track between Pizolhütte and Gaffia.
A special highlight at Pizol is the night skiing offer. Every Friday, the carving slope next to the gondola lift is illuminated, inviting skiers to hit the slopes until 10:30 PM.

The Airolo ski resort features 30 kilometers of slopes spread across 13 different pistes. The area lies between 1,175 and 2,256 meters above sea level and offers a stunning panoramic view of the St. Gotthard massif.
This ski area is especially suited for advanced skiers, professionals, and freeriders. There are 15 km of red-marked pistes, 14 km of black-marked pistes, and 8 km of ski routes, with only one kilometer of blue pistes, making Airolo more suitable for experienced skiers.
Families with kids will find a ski school and a ski kindergarten, where little ones can make their first attempts on skis. Freestylers will be thrilled about the Yukipark, which is equipped with many elements like rails and kickers.

The Les Diablerets ski area has 112 kilometers of slopes and spans the three sections of Villars, Gryon, and Les Diablerets. These are connected by ski lifts, ensuring a very varied skiing experience.
There's a large selection of easy slopes for families and beginners. But you'll also find red and black-marked slopes that cater to intermediates and experts.
A special highlight is the Glacier 3000 glacier, where skiing is usually possible from October to May. From the top mountain station, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Swiss and French Alps. The Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, and Matterhorn are just part of the panorama.
On the glacier, experienced freeriders can look forward to fantastic runs. Additionally, there is a snow park for freestylers of all skill levels. Another highlight is the 8 km long “Red Run” slope, which has a vertical drop of over 1700 meters. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll definitely feel the pressure in your ears.

The ski area is located in the heart of the Vaud Alps and offers a total of 100 kilometers of slopes. The two sub-areas are easily connected by a ski bus, providing a wide range of options and plenty of variety.
The Leysin sub-area has a majority of blue-marked slopes, making it especially popular among beginners, returners, and families. The runs in Leysin are situated on the south face, guaranteeing plenty of sunshine.
Freestylers and snowboarders can enjoy the Snowpark Leysin and the ski cross slope.
The Les Mosses sub-area provides many opportunities for sporty riders, as a large part of the slopes are marked in red. Additionally, there are two large snow parks for freestylers and snowboarders.
