Stellisee is located in one of the most beautiful and well-known corners of Switzerland. The region around Zermatt offers a varied mountain area with a fantastic mountain panorama. The area also includes other great mountain lakes like the Riffelsee or the Grindjisee.
The view from the Stellisee is absolutely unique. Pictures of the lake with the perfect reflection of the Matterhorn in the still water are world famous. It is worth climbing up early in the morning for sunrise or in the evening for sunset. Then you additionally get the great golden light on the magical landscape.
Lake Stelli has something to offer in every season. In winter you can admire the white alpine panorama and in spring you can enjoy rare alpine flowers. The lake shore is adorned with cotton grass, which covers the green meadows with white spots. In the region you can also find the unique Valais black-nosed sheep.

Walk from the station "Blauherd"
Zermatt - Sunnegga - Blauherd - Stellisee
The easiest way to reach the lake is by train from Zermatt. For this you take the funicular from Zermatt to Sunnegga. From there a cable car takes you to the station "Blauherd". Here begins the short walk to the lake. In total, the walk takes 15 - 20 minutes and is easy for any fitness level.
Five Lakes Hike Zermatt (No. 11):
Blauherd - Stellisee - Grindjisee - Grünsee - Moosjisee - Leisee - Sunnegga
This beautiful five-lake hike takes you past the five most famous lakes in the region. Each lake offers a different view of the surrounding area. In the Stellisee, Grindjisee and Leisee you admire the great Matterhorn reflection in the water. The Leisee and the Grünsee offer great swimming opportunities in summer. On the way you also enjoy a fantastic view of the Findelgletscher moraine. The hike is not particularly challenging and is therefore suitable for children from 6 years.

4-Lakes Tour Stellisee (No. 29):
Blauherd - Stellisee - Fluhalp - Grindjisee - Grünsee - Gant - Moosjisee - Findeln - Sunnegga
The mountain bike 4-lakes tour takes you past four beautiful mountain lakes. From the Blauherd station you first go to the Stellisee. Here you can stop at the Fluhalp and enjoy refreshments on the terrace.
Afterwards, the trail leads you to Grindjisee, where you can once again admire a great view of the Matterhorn. The next mountain lake is the Grünsee. In this lake you can see a mirror image of other mighty mountains of the region. Finally, we go to the Moosjisee. This one stands out from the others in terms of color, especially with its milky glacier water.

For whom is the Stellisee suitable?
Since the hiking trail from Blauherd takes only 20 minutes and is not particularly steep, the lake is easily accessible with any fitness level. So even children can come along and enjoy the fresh alpine air. However, the trail is not wheelchair accessible and is also difficult to navigate with strollers.
