Your day trip begins and ends in Tirano. On the regional train, not the panoramic train of the Bernina Express (!!), you travel along the historic route of the Bernina railroad line, which was completed in 1908. On this journey, you will be traveling on the same route as the famous Bernina Express. The train reaches its highest point on the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2253 m above sea level). It is the highest station on the Rhaetian Railway.
On this section of the Bernina Railway, you travel over UNESCO World Heritage buildings. It is considered a cross-border, joint Swiss-Italian World Heritage Site.
You plan your travel times yourself, the ticket is valid all day long on the entire route. You can get off as often as you like along the way and interrupt your journey to discover a place. You don't need a seat reservation for this train and are very flexible.
