The Hölloch in the rural and beautiful Muotathal is one of the largest explored caves in the world. An incredible 200 kilometres have already been mapped out. Underground water shaped this cave system over more than a million years.
The guided route through the Hölloch is a unique experience because you can follow an underground climbing path. You climb, crawl, and go up and down ladders. Still, this adventure is no problem for anyone with average fitness!
At the Hölloch Centre, you meet your guide and possibly other participants. Then, the provider equips you with everything you need for the cave tour. Your guide explains what you need to know for the experience. Throughout the tour, you’ll be given exciting information about the cave’s history, geology, and the animals living inside. The underground climbing park includes side passages, narrow spots, ladders, deep sections, and much more. It’s a genuine experience where you see impressive rock formations and stalactites!
In good weather conditions, you can also admire sinter formations, which are only to be walked on barefoot to protect them, or explore the cave surface on a karst hike.
Practical Information:
Good news: Experience shows that neither claustrophobia nor fear of heights is an issue in the Hölloch. The narrowest spots are easily passable, and the darkness inside the cave prevents any view into the depths.
