Lutry is located on the northern shores of Lake Geneva, only about five km east of Lausanne. The village lies at the foot of the Jorat highlands, which are well covered with forests. Part of the western wine-growing region of Lavaux also belongs to medieval Lutry. The town center with its narrow streets and the old patrician houses of the 15th to 18th centuries are listed as historical monuments. Of the old fortifications, the 13th century Tour du Bourg-Neuf still exists on the western edge of the town. A 14th century castle stands on the northeast edge of the old town. Lutry has a landing stage for the CGN SA shipping company between Lausanne and Vevey.
