Lake Biel covers an area of 39.8 km² and is one of the three large Jura lakes. It stretches across the cantons of Bern and Neuchâtel. The landscape is characterized by vineyards, orchards, and gentle hills. The lake offers plenty of recreational opportunities, including sailing, swimming, and boat tours. The elongated St. Peter's Island is a peninsula near Erlach. You can reach it by boat, on a cruise ship, or by walking from Erlach. On the island, there is a medieval monastery. There are numerous hiking and cycling paths around the lake.
