For a family outing, Gurten is a destination you should definitely include in your plans. There are plenty of dining options in the surrounding restaurants. By the way, Gurten is car-free. You can only access it on foot or via the Gurtenbahn.
The Park im Grünen regularly attracts the residents of the city of Bern to the Gurten. Every year, around mid-July, a four-day music festival is held here. Up to 80,000 people take part in the Gurten Festival.
The Gurtengärtli is a natural garden laid out over an area of 650 m² in the middle of the park. Every Wednesday and Sunday, children can take part in supervised garden afternoons here. In this way they learn about the cycles of nature in a playful way. The offer is free of charge and requires no advance registration.
Adults can take part in guided garden tours, which are organized up to twice a month during the summer. However, a ticket is required for this.
Right at the exit of the Gurtenbahn mountain station you will find the toboggan run. Thrilling sections, tight curves and even a tunnel provide thrills. Besides, you have a great view of Bern and the Alps.

The small car park offers 12 small cars, quad or motorcycle for children. They can drive around here as they please. You can find them on the big playground, behind the Gurteseeli and the small train.

The small railroad was built in 1960 by students from Bern during their vacations. At the Take Away Stand Bahnhöfli you can refresh yourself.

When jogging, you have the great advantage that the Gurten is car-free. The diverse routes lead over gravel paths, asphalt roads or single trails.
The new trend sport can be played almost everywhere. On the Gurten, the course has 12 yellow baskets. The player who hits all 12 baskets with his Frisbee and needs the fewest throws wins.
You ride your bike up in the funicular and then you can ride downhill for about two kilometers to Wabern. You will climb 270 meters in altitude.
A children's ski lift operates on the Gurten as soon as there's enough snow. This small ski area is reserved for kids and beginners.
The sledding path also depends on having enough snow. From Bern station, you can reach the sledding path in just 17 minutes. It takes you from the top station to the middle station and is not lit.
From Wabern, you take the Gurtenbahn, a funicular railway, to the Gurten in under five minutes. The distance is about one kilometer, climbing nearly 270 meters in elevation. The Wabern Gurtenbahn starts at the valley station in Wabern at 572 m above sea level and ends at Gurten Kulm at 858 m above sea level.

The tram from Bern to Wabern takes only ten minutes, so there's really no need to drive. However, if you do take the car, there is a parking garage at the valley station.
You’ll find two restaurants on the Gurten. The Gurten Brunch is very popular. Additionally, there’s the Bahnhöfli take-away if you’re in a hurry.
At the à-la-carte restaurant Gurtners, you’ll enjoy Swiss cuisine, including grilled dishes. With 110 indoor seats and 120 outdoor seats, it’s modern and cozy.
The Tapis Rouge is a self-service restaurant with an extensive buffet. It offers 220 indoor and 260 outdoor seats, making it suitable for a quicker meal.
