Gambarogno is a fusion municipality in Ticino that runs along the eastern and southern shores of Lake Maggiore. It consists of a number of scattered villages. Gambarogno offers an idyllic landscape for hikers and nature lovers. Worth seeing are the Gambarogno-Magadino fortresses with the Forte Olimpio museum. The fortifications date back to the time before the First World War. In the Magadino plain, at the mouth to Lake Maggiore, lies one of the nine Swiss alluvial landscapes. The Bolle of Magadino is a nature reserve and breeding ground for many bird species. (Photo: Switzerland Tourism, Jan Geerk)
