Frutigen stretches between Gehrihorn and Niesen chain. The village, consisting of 8 parts, is located in the Kander and Engstligental valleys. One of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in all of Europe spans the Engstligen valley. Frutigen has a total population of about 7000 people. Worth seeing is the Tellenburg above Frutigen, which was built in the 12th century. The castle served to control the Lötschen pass. Furthermore, the Tropical House Frutigen is a popular destination in the region. Finds from the Bronze Age show the long history of the place. From Frutigen, the Elsigenalpbahn cable car climbs 470 meters in altitude to 1800 meters above sea level.
