Flums has about 5000 inhabitants and includes the areas Flums-Dorf, Flums-Grossberg and Flums-Kleinberg. The village is located in the Schils valley, which takes its name from the continuous 16 km long river Schils. Flums is best known for the Flumserberg. This is a popular hiking and skiing area. The Flumserberg is served by 5 mountain railroads, and in winter there are another 12 lifts. 65 km of ski slopes are included in the Flumserberg ski area. A cultural asset of the village is the Gräpplang Castle. It was built by the knights of Flums in the 13th century.
