Chur lies at just under 600 meters above sea level and is the oldest city in Switzerland. It was founded on a previously Celtic settlement area by the Romans as Curia Raetorum. Chur is known as the hub of the Rhaetian Railway and for a particularly pretty and car-free old town. Fast access to the mountains is directly from the city center. The cable cars take guests in a few minutes to the local mountain Brambrüesch (1600 m above sea level) on the slope of the Dreibündenstein (2160 m above sea level). Chur is the hub of the Rhaetian Railway
