Bönigen is located on the southern shore of Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. The village center of Bönigen stretches along the northwestern border of the municipality along the Lütschine River to the lake and is almost connected to Interlaken. In the village there are picturesque wooden houses, often dating back to the 16th century. The largest part of the village in terms of area consists of steep mountain slopes.
