Bernina Route
The highest railway line over the Alps takes you from Chur or St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy. The railway line spectacularly winds through the Alps: it passes wild romantic gorges, impressive structures like the Landwasser Viaduct, up to the glaciers and back down to the palms in Italian Tirano. You can expect a unique journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges.
The train reaches its highest point at the Bernina Pass in Ospizio Bernina (2253 m above sea level). It is the highest railway station of the Rhaetian Railway.
On this route also runs the Bernina Express panoramic train. This ticket is valid on both the regular trains of the Rhaetian Railway and on the Bernina Express panoramic train. Please note, however, that to travel with the Bernina Express, you must have a seat reservation.
This ticket alone does not give you access to the Bernina Express panoramic train. However, the regular trains run on the same route, and you can enjoy the beautiful panorama just as well.

On the go with a wheelchair
- The trains and buses of the RhB increasingly have low-floor entrances (marked with NF in the timetable).
- The SBB Call Center Handicap organizes assistance for RhB when changing trains, where platforms have not yet been elevated and floors have not yet been aligned. It helps you prepare for barrier-free travel or if you need assistance while on your way.
Out and About with the Dog
- Transporting small dogs up to 30 cm is free if they remain in a transport container for the entire duration. This must be placed under your seat.
- Dogs without a container and all dogs over 30 cm shoulder height require a valid dog ticket: half price of the 2nd class or the minimum fare (dog day ticket, dog pass). They must sit under the seat to ensure the passage is not blocked for other travelers.
