The bodmiARENA is situated on a sunny area in the middle of Grindelwald at 1200 m.a.s.l.. The local recreation area will become a winter sports paradise for guests and locals alike from December. If you don't mind a two and a half hour hike before the toboggan run, you can walk from the top station Grindelwald First up to the Faulhorn at 2680 m.a.s.l.. This way you will reach the longest toboggan run in the world. It is called Big Pintenfritz and is 15 km long.

With the mountain railroad you can reach the mountain station First from Grindelwald terminal within 20 min. You can reach the Faulhorn from the First via winter hiking trails. There you can enjoy a unique panoramic view over large parts of Switzerland.

On the marked toboggan run Big Pintenfritz you descend towards Bussalp until you finally reach Grindelwald. The trip takes about an hour and covers 1600 meters in altitude.

Männlichen - Sledging Grindelwald

In 18 min the modern 10-seater gondola takes you from the Grindelwald Terminal to the Männlichen mountain station at an altitude of around 2200 meters. The journey to the Männlichen mountain station is also possible from Lauterbrunnen by cable car.

Along a 6 km long, prepared winter hiking trail you sledge from Männlichen through the fairytale winter wonderland. This way you reach the intermediate station Holenstein. From there you can comfortably take the mountain railroad back down to the valley. If the snow conditions allow it, you can also take the toboggan for the rest of the way.

Family Run on Bussalp - Sledging Grindelwald

Perfect for families is the 4.5 km long toboggan run "Family Run" starting at Bussalp. It leads along the access road to Holzmattenläger.

Between Holzmattenläger and Rasthysi you have to dismount and walk a few times, because the toboggan run goes uphill and downhill. From Rasthysi to Lochsteinen, the end point of the tour, it's a fast ride.

If you choose the Family Run toboggan run with the whole family, you should definitely also stop by at the family snow park on Bussalp. A stop along the way at the Rasthysi Bar is also recommended.

Alpiglen Eiger Run - Sledging Grindelwald

One of the most famous toboggan runs in the Bernese Oberland and thus in the Jungfrau region is the spectacular Eiger Run, which passes directly under the legendary Eiger North Face. With a gradient of up to 36%, this toboggan run in Grindelwald is not for the faint of heart. Although the route is only about 3.5 km long in total, but they have it in for it.

The tour starts at the 1600 m high Alpiglen. You reach it with the longest continuous rack railroad in the world, the Wengernalpbahn. A descent with fantastic views awaits you on the toboggan runs in Grindelwald, which run from the First at 2168 m.a.s.l. to the mountain station Bort. There are several options for you to cover the distance of about 700 meters in altitude. The shorter variant is about 4 km long and starts at the valley station of the Oberjoch chairlift.

The toboggan run, marked with purple poles, first leads along the ski slope and then branches off to Schreckfeld. After that follows a comfortable, flat part until Egg, which increases in gradient shortly before Bort. In good snow conditions you have the possibility to continue sledding from Bort to Grindelwald.

The second variant of the sledging trail on Grindelwald-First is 9 km long and starts at the Gummihütte at Bachalpsee. On the flat part shortly before Waldspitz a fantastic alpine panorama awaits you. From Waldspitz it goes directly in the direction of Bort. Restaurants along the way are the mountain restaurants Bort and Waldspitz.

Before the descent on the most panoramic toboggan runs in Grindelwald, you should treat yourself to the adventurous First Cliff Walk. The legendary circular walk is a unique summit attraction and leads over a 40 m long single-rope suspension bridge as well as a 45 m long viewing footbridge.

Night sledging Grindelwald

If you like sledding at night, you have two options in Grindelwald. The route City Run from Bussalp is perfectly prepared for night sledging. Also the Eiger Run from Alpiglen to Brandegg can be used as often as you like with the evening ticket.

Bussalp - Night sledging

Sledging on the Bussalp is also very popular at night. The Grindelwald bus runs regularly from Bärenplatz in Grindelwald to Bussalp.

The toboggan run is not illuminated at night, so you should bring a good headlamp. The route from Bussalp to Weidli is about 5.6 km long and takes about 30 min. The difference in altitude is 560 meters. Down to Grindelwald it is a total of 8 km.

You can combine a night sledging on the Bussalp with a fondue in the mountain restaurant Bussalp. You pay for single rides directly at the bus. Since the bus rides and the night sledding are very popular, you may have to expect waiting times. We therefore recommend that you make a reservation for the night sledding including fondue fun.

Eiger Run - Night sledging

The Eiger Run is about 3.5 km long and is not suitable for inexperienced sledders. At the foot of the Eiger north face, the run goes rapidly downhill. From Alpiglen to Brandegg the route is illuminated for night sledging.

The Wengernalpbahn uses extra trains to Alpiglen to the starting point for sledging at night. The trains are up from Grindelwald in less than five minutes. The Brandegg mountain restaurant offers a fondue after sledding in convivial company. Equipment for sledging is rented from Intersport Grindelwald.
