Adelboden is located centrally in the Engstligental valley and is well connected to the surrounding villages and mountains all the way to Frutigen.
The Tschentenalp is considered the local mountain of Adelboden and can be reached in just five minutes by cable car (gondola). Near the mountain station, you'll find a playground, a Giant Swing, and beautiful viewpoints.
In summer, Tschentenalp is primarily a popular hiking area. There are long biking routes that lead from Adelboden up to Tschentenalp and back. In winter, 14 km of sledding tracks are prepared. A six-kilometer sled run takes you down a particularly wide slope into the valley. If you take a break on the terrace of the summit restaurant, you have the chance to enjoy views of the three-thousanders Wildstrubel, the Lohner massif, and Tschingellochtighorn.
The Cholerenschlucht is a 100-meter-long gorge above the roaring Tschentenbach. It's accessible via stairs and bridges and showcases impressive waterfalls, round-shaped rocks, and watermills. Under the supervision of the Adelboden Alpine School, you can also go climbing and participate in abseiling exercises here.
The easy circular hike from Adelboden takes about two hours (8 km). From Cholerenschlucht, you can reach the Pochtenkessel in about 20 minutes. It's a deep rock basin where the Otterebach and the Engstlige converge.
The Engstligenalp is a high plateau located above Adelboden at about 2000 m above sea level. You can reach it in just three minutes from Adelboden via the Globi cable car.
The Engstligen waterfalls are among the most water-rich waterfalls in Switzerland. They plunge thunderously and foamily over 600 m into the depths. For families with children, the ride on the Globi gondola is already a special experience. The view of the waterfalls, the mountain landscape, and the alpine landscape with cows makes for a beautiful start to an adventurous day.
Sillerenbühl (1976 m above sea level) and the Hahnenmoos pass are the “Mountains of Vogellisi”. In summer, the best way to experience the freedom of the mountains is by scooter, with a route of 45 km in place. The Vogellisi adventure trail is also part of it. The entire area is a hiking paradise both in summer and winter.
The Aeugi-Lowa trail leads from Hahnenmoos pass to Engstligenalp. Along this path, you’ll gain insight into the high alpine zones and their fascination. There’s even a Skynest waiting for you at the top of the mountain. It’s woven from willow and awaits you at the Sillerenbühl mountain station.
The popular winter sports area of Elsigen-Metsch also transforms into a wonderful hiking area in summer. For example, you can reach Brandsee in just fifteen minutes from the top station of the Lenk cable cars.
The Lohner consists of several mountain peaks:
The Lohner massif is very popular among mountaineers. The Lohner hut is located about halfway up.
The Tropic House Frutigen is also a breeding station for sturgeon and caviar. A stroll through the tropical forest is ideal for a family outing. Large aquariums and the interactive exhibition "How the fish came to the mountain" are designed for children. Lili the marmot conveys interesting facts in language suitable for children. In the tropical house there are several restaurants and a tropical lodge for overnight stays.
The region around the village of Adelboden is a popular destination year-round in the Bernese Oberland.
The scooter is a mix between a bike and a kick scooter. Kids aged eight and older can ride one of these. In Adelboden, there are 45 km of trails available for scooting. You can choose from seven different routes. The Vogellisi Mountain is also known as "Trottiland".

There’s also the Grübi swimming pool in Adelboden. It features a 50 m swimming pool, a wellness area, a children's pool, and play areas. On nice days, it stays open until 19:00. At Sportzentrum Frutigen, you’ll find many other sports facilities, including an outdoor pool.
By the way, swimming is not allowed at Blausee.
The Adelboden Lenk ski area is considered a top destination for skiing. The bright white slopes are internationally recognized, with 60% of the main runs being snow-covered. More than 200 km of ski slopes are spread across several sub-areas.
This includes the respective lifts and cable cars. They are all part of a unified tariff, so you don’t have to worry: the Top4 ski pass is valid for all regions. However, you can also purchase a ticket for just a specific area.
