Aare

The Aare is a river that flows exclusively through Switzerland. It originates from the Oberaar Glacier in the Bernese Oberland and meanders through towns and landscapes. The Aare flows through the narrow Aare Gorge near Meiringen at an increased speed of around 12 km/h. The Aare Gorge is accessible in summer via footbridges and bypass tunnels. You can experience a variety of activities on the Aare. The Böötle is a rather relaxed inflatable boat trip on the Aare, which is very popular in summer. The 27 km stretch between Thun and Bern is particularly popular for this. After a journey of over 288 km, the Aare finally flows into the Rhine.
